Terms and conditions
Last updated: September 25, 2026
These terms govern the use of Codea, a free educational platform to learn how to code. By creating an account or entering without one you accept these terms. If you don't agree, don't use Codea.
1. What Codea is
Codea organizes learning routes with links to third-party videos and courses, hands-on challenges, quizzes, submission review by a teacher, virtual rewards and leaderboards. The service is free.
2. Age and accounts
- Codea is meant for people aged 16 or older. If you are 16 or 17, you need permission from your parent or legal guardian.
- You can sign in with your Google account or without an account. Without an account, your progress lives only in that browser and may be lost if you clear its data.
- You are responsible for what happens from your account. Use a name that doesn't offend or impersonate anyone.
3. Acceptable use
You agree to use Codea to learn and to follow the Code of conduct. Harassing others, posting illegal or offensive content, trying to access other people's data, tampering with scores or leaderboards, or using the platform commercially without permission is forbidden.
4. Your submissions
What you submit (links, text, code) remains yours. You allow us to store it and show it to your route's teachers for review. Your name, level, XP and achievements may appear on the leaderboards and on the wall other students see.
5. Teachers
Teacher accounts are activated only when the administrator approves the request. Teachers can see the progress, submissions and grades of students in the routes assigned to them, and agree to use that information only for teaching.
6. Third-party content
Linked videos, courses and documentation belong to their authors (YouTube, Udemy, official documentation and others). Codea only links to them, credits them and does not host or rebroadcast them. Udemy Business courses require your own account. Please also review each site's terms. See the credits.
7. Rewards, leaderboards and certificates
XP, stickers, avatars, frames and color themes are virtual, have no monetary value and cannot be redeemed. The certificate recognizes that you completed a Codea route; it is not an official degree nor endorsed by an educational institution.
8. Availability
We do our best to keep Codea working well, but it is provided "as is": it may have outages, bugs or content changes. We may modify or remove routes and features at any time.
9. Liability
Codea is a learning tool and does not guarantee a job or specific results. To the extent permitted by law, we are not liable for damages arising from the use of the platform or third-party sites.
10. Suspension
We may suspend or delete accounts that break these terms or the code of conduct. You can stop using Codea and ask us to delete your data at any time.
11. Changes and governing law
If we change these terms, we will update the date above and announce it on the platform. They are governed by the laws of the Republic of Peru.
